The "Mary Tyler Moore Show," "Taxi," "Cheers," "Frasier," "Friends," and "Will & Grace" are surely among the most beloved TV shows of the past several decades. One man, James Burrows, had a hand in all of them and many others. In conjunction with the release of his memoir, Directed by James Burrows, this legendary television sitcom director spends an evening in conversation with actor/producer/director Jason Bateman reflecting on his five decades of making America laugh. Filled with never-revealed stories of the casting of the dozens of great sitcoms he directed (and, in the case of "Cheers," co-created) as well as details on how these classic shows were developed, this insightful and nostalgic memoir offers a bounty of behind-the-scenes moments from our favorite shows, peeling away the layers to reveal how a successful sitcom comes together—and stays that way.

Jason Bateman is one of the most in-demand talents in Hollywood for his skill both in front of and behind the camera. Most notably, he is an award-winning director, executive producer and star of the acclaimed Netflix drama "Ozark" and in 2019, earned an Emmy® Award for ‘Outstanding Directing for a Drama Series.' Additionally, he has been nominated for multiple Emmy®, SAG®, and Golden Globe® awards for his leading television roles in "Ozark" and the cult comedy series "Arrested Development." Bateman is also the co-creator of "Smartless," an immensely popular podcast series with special guests that include the likes of Vice President Kamala Harris, George Clooney, LeBron James, Tom Hanks, and Billie Eilish.

“[A] dazzling tell all….delivers on all counts.” — Publishers Weekly

“If the title doesn’t have you practically salivating, then perhaps you need to brush up on your contemporary television history . . . Burrows is legendary.”

“Being directed by the Jimmy Burrows, while on Friends, was like hitting the jackpot. He’s directed some of the greatest television shows in history, and I’m grateful for having had the chance to work with him. I’m delighted that everyone can now share in his incredible insight with this book. He’s an American treasure and a living legend who will forever be part of my family.”— Jennifer Aniston

“As we pursued parallel careers during the ’70s and ’80s, I could not have admired Jim Burrows more. Watching Cheers, The Mary Tyler Moore Show, and Taxi, touched and influenced me enormously. There has not been a more efficient, effective, creative, and admirable television director’s career than the one established by Jim Burrows. Recently and for the first time, I have been working with him and consider myself a lucky dude.” — Norman Lear
