THE ASCAP FOUNDATION THEATRICAL GROUP MUSICAL THEATRE LIBRETTIST WORKSHOP
With support from the Kenward Elmslie Fund
Three aspiring musical theatre creators will have the chance of a lifetime to workshop their new musicals during the inaugural The ASCAP Foundation Musical Theatre Librettist Workshop.
A sister program to the ASCAP Foundation Musical Theatre Workshop with Stephen Schwartz, this brand-new program will seek to educate, nurture, and uplift emerging librettists. Each of the three chosen participants will be given the opportunity to present 20-25 minutes of their musical. They will also walk the audience and panelists through their musical’s storyboard, a visual technique that helps you plan and organize your stage play before you write the script. A panel of industry professionals will provide feedback that focuses on items like structure, tone, character development and the ease with which songs are incorporated.
Details for each of the chosen musicals will follow. Join us for all three sessions of the new workshop, followed by a very special evening with the iconic librettists behind your favorite Broadway musicals!

They’ll cover how they hire their composers and lyricists, narrate a song’s lifecycle from pre-production all the way to air, lay out how they collaborate with both internal and external teams and explain current musical trends in the animation world.
