Join us prior to the concert from 6:30-7:00 PM for a prelude discussion with the artist moderated by Classical KUSC's Brian Lauritzen.
Within each of the evening's four compositions, Beethoven counteracts an inevitable darkness with luminous light. Shihor's intent to present these sonatas in pairs - a celebrated work with a lesser known one - further accentuates this metaphoric and musical chasm. Join internationally acclaimed pianist Ory Shihor as he returns to The Wallis to perform these masterful sonatas.
This concert is made possible by generous support from Camille and Arnon Adar, and Marilyn Ziering.
This program was made possible in part thanks to the support of the Consulate General of Israel in Los Angeles.
“Boldly individualistic.” — The New York Times
“Shihor powered through Beethoven's ‘Appassionata’ sonata with a sure sense of line and structure, but was not afraid to take risks--his arm-weighted sforzandos rang out like gunshots, his articulation of Beethoven's inner voices snapped compellingly through the violent roar of the concluding movement, and his acceleration in the coda was exhilaratingly crisp and clean without sacrificing weight.” — The Washington Post
