Tuition for the first session, $250
Scholarships Available
Ages 16-20
SPACES STILL AVAILABLE
This experiential 12 week Lab will delve into the principles of creating dance that is site specific. As dance continues to expand beyond theatrical stages and concert venues, choreographers and dancers are regularly called upon to devise and perform work in non-traditional spaces.
Working in and around the Wallis building, participants will learn how to create work that is inspired by architecture, outdoor landscaping and interior design. Choreographers will explore how to integrate physical structures into composition and how to draw meaning from them. This course will start October 24th with approximately 12 sessions (Monday nights) and will culminate in a site specific performance at The Wallis in early February 2017.
Participants will also have the opportunity to take part in master classes and/or attend rehearsals or performances with leading dance companies and choreographers at The Wallis including: Paul Taylor Dance Company, Daniel Ezralow, Mathew Bourne’s New Adventures, Jacob Jonas and The Jose Limon Dance Company.
NOTE: There will be an additional Spring session in the Art of Choreography (focus to be announced later this year), this session will start in February 2017 and will culminate with a concert in the Bram Goldsmith Theater in May 2017.
