LACO Music Director Jaime Martín shapes a program that journeys from mourning to joy, and from introspection to heroism, through the full range of human experience. The evening opens with Richard Strauss' Metamorphosen, a profound elegy for 23 solo strings written in the final days of World War II that mourns a world in ruins with extraordinary depth and tenderness. The mood then lifts with Ravel’s Piano Concerto in G Major, where pianist Conrad Tao brings his fearless technique and poetic sensibility to an effervescent score alive with jazz-inflected energy. The program culminates with Beethoven’s “Eroica” Symphony, a revolutionary masterpiece that journeys from struggle to renewal in one of music’s most powerful and enduring statements.
