LA OPERA
BETH MORRISON PROJECTS
Composed by Paola Prestini
Libretto by Royce Vavrek.
A breathtaking new music-theater adaptation of Ernest Hemingway’s Pulitzer Prize-winning novella, The Old Man and the Sea, tells the story of an aging Cuban fisherman who refuses to yield to time, solitude, or the restless pull of the sea itself. Day after day, he casts his nets in search of the great catch that might restore his sense of purpose — until one extraordinary struggle changes everything.
Created by Beth Morrison Projects in collaboration with LA Opera, this visually arresting production turns eight pools of water into a living stage. With striking lighting, evocative costumes, and an immersive soundscape, it becomes a poetic meditation on endurance, loss, and the fierce, fragile dignity of being human.
One man. One sea. Some struggles belong to forces larger than us all.
