Step into Vivaldi’s Venice, one of history’s great cultural crossroads where European and Middle Eastern influences met and mingled. Francesco Corti leads from the harpsichord as LACO’s virtuoso players step forward in a series of mixed and double concertos. Highlights include the rarely heard reconstructed Organ and Violin Concerto, featuring Assistant Concertmaster Tereza Stanislav, as well as the fiery “Grosso Mughal,” one of Vivaldi’s most virtuosic violin concertos, performed by LACO Concertmaster Margaret Batjer. Violinist Rachel Barton Pine joins for two rare Viola d’amore concertos, performed on an instrument whose sympathetic strings create a haunting, resonant sound unlike anything else in the classical world. Works by fellow Venetians Albinoni and Galuppi complete the program, revealing the elegance, charm, and expressive breadth of 18th-century Venice.
A journey not just through repertoire, but through a world where Venice’s golden age feels, once again, vividly alive.
