The Wallis is throwing open its doors and kicking off the 2016/17 season with WelcomeFest, a two-day party to welcome the community and celebrate the performing arts on September 10 and 11. The weekend offers free entertainment featuring local and renowned artists and performers—including works by the Tony Award-nominated director of Spring Awakening and The Wallis’ first artist-in-residence Michael Arden, and LA-based contemporary dance group Jacob Jonas The Company—as well as family-fun activities, classes, cash bar, food trucks and more.
Beginning at 2pm on Saturday, September 10, every corner of The Wallis’ campus will come alive with music, dancing, roving theater performances, comedy and a dance party at dusk featuring an eclectic mix of music to end the night. Continuing the celebration on Sunday, September 11 at 10am, The Wallis will offer entertainment and activities geared towards families, including hands-on classes for all ages, storytelling, games, family-friendly music and more. Sunday will also mark the return of Debbie Allen’s popular Dance Sundays series where she will teach a free outdoor salsa class. Dance Sundays will continue every second Sunday of the month throughout the season.
